Peter Folger represents clients in the areas of employment and labor law, and has particular expertise advising independent schools on the legal issues that impact educational organizations.
Peter received his undergraduate degree in History from Stanford University in 1967. Between 1967 and 1970, he served in the United States Marine Corps. He received his law degree (cum laude) from the University of San Francisco Law School in 1973. During law school, he served as an extern law clerk to Associate Justice Raymond L. Sullivan of the California Supreme Court. Peter has been a member of the California Bar since 1973. In 1978, he co-founded Folger & Levin, serving as a partner through 2023. He currently serves as Of Counsel to the firm.
In the area of traditional labor law, Peter’s practice has included leading collective bargaining negotiations for employers and representing employers in court, arbitration and National Labor Relations Board proceedings. He also provides pre-litigation and transactional-related guidance and counseling to employers regarding federal, state and local regulations. In addition to his employment and labor practice, Peter assists clients in matters concerning trust administration and litigation. He also has particular expertise in serving the legal needs of independent schools.
Peter is active in a number of community organizations and, in particular, has assisted educational institutions. He was a member of the Santa Catalina Board of Trustees from 1985 to 2017, serving as its Chair from 1992 to 2007. He was a member of the Board of Counselors at the University of San Francisco School of Law for 30 years, serving as Chair for ten years. He previously served as Chair of the Boards of Trustees of Katherine Delmar Burke School and Town School for Boys, as well as serving as a member for seven years of San Francisco University High School’s Board of Trustees. He has given numerous workshops on Board governance issues both as an independent presenter and as part of the former Governance Through Partnership program of the National Association of Independent Schools.
