Folger Levin is Seeking Labor and Employment Associates
Posted by Drew Davis
About the Positions
Folger Levin LLP, a boutique, full-service firm in San Francisco, is looking for associates to join our Labor & Employment practice group. Our Labor & Employment practice offers a diverse and challenging practice involving a broad mix of employment work, representing not only for-profit employers, but also nonprofits, including independent schools. Our work includes representing California employers in employment litigation and administrative proceedings and in traditional labor law matters. A substantial part of our practice consists of advising employers on employment law issues, conducting training, and reviewing policies and agreements. We look for candidates who we believe can be part of the long-term future of our firm. So, as an associate, you can expect close mentorship by experienced attorneys, and a realistic path to partnership, all in a collegial, collaborative environment.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a desire to work collaboratively with colleagues who genuinely enjoy the practice of law; superb communication and legal research skills; and the ability to take leadership and to show initiative. Candidates must also be licensed to practice law in California and have at least two years of experience in employment law.
About the Firm
Located in San Francisco, Folger Levin is a boutique, full-service firm that is majority-owned by women. We are known for delivering sophisticated legal services of the highest quality in an environment marked by a commitment to enhancing the personal and professional fulfillment of our colleagues. We have structured our firm in a manner designed to align our interest with those of our clients, and to create an environment in which attorneys and staff can establish long-term and fulfilling careers. By way of example, we recognize that the common law firm practice of imposing minimum billable hour requirements can cause burnout and create incentives that do not serve the client’s interests. Because service is about quality, not quantity, we do not impose a billable hour target, which helps us create a community of individuals who devote as much time as is necessary – no more, no less – to deliver excellent client service.
We also recognize that we are better able to create long-term relationships with clients when we have limited turnover. As a result, every time we hire a new attorney, it is with the hope that this new member of our team will become a partner in the firm. This sets us apart from some firms whose business model depends on a large numbers of associates and fewer partners. Because we hope that associates will join our partnership, we are motivated to assign interesting work, provide hands-on mentoring, offer a realistic path to partnership, and avoid burnout. As a result of this approach, most of our partners have worked together for their entire careers, while our staff have worked together, on average, for more than 10 years.
